NBR cautions against job fraud in Income Tax Department recruitment

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has cautioned job seekers and guardians against fraudsters allegedly collecting money by falsely promising jobs in the Income Tax Department.

In a press release issued today (1 June), the NBR said the recruitment process for vacant posts in the Income Tax Department is currently underway in accordance with government directives.

The revenue authority said it has been informed that certain fraud syndicates in different parts of the country are attempting to deceive people through various means by claiming they can secure jobs in the Income Tax Department in exchange for money.

According to the NBR, the main objective of these fraudulent groups is to exploit candidates who would otherwise obtain jobs through the normal recruitment process based on merit by falsely claiming that employment was secured through monetary transactions.

The press release said fraudsters may return money to some unsuccessful candidates who fail to qualify due to a lack of merit, but they are likely to embezzle funds collected from those who eventually secure jobs through their own qualifications and due process.

To raise public awareness, the NBR assured that the ongoing recruitment process in the Income Tax Department is being conducted with full transparency and accountability in accordance with due legal procedures.

It said qualified candidates will be selected by a committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Public Administration, the Internal Resources Division, the Public Service Commission and the Income Tax Department.

The NBR urged job seekers, guardians and all concerned not to fall prey to such fraudulent activities.

It also requested anyone with information about individuals or groups collecting money in the name of securing jobs in the Income Tax Department to inform the respective tax commissioner's office or the NBR Public Relations Officer.
