China opposes hegemony, expansionism and spheres of influence: Envoy Yao
The ambassador said China has always followed an independent foreign policy of peace, adding that its defence policy is also guided by the principle of peaceful development.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said that "hegemony, expansion or spheres of influence find no place in the Chinese dictionary," reaffirming Beijing's commitment to peaceful development and its willingness to strengthen cooperation with Bangladesh, including in the defence sector.
Yao made the remarks while delivering a lecture at the National Defence College (NDC) in Dhaka today (8 July) at the invitation of the institution, according to a Facebook post by the Chinese Embassy.
The ambassador said China has consistently pursued a friendly neighbourhood policy towards Bangladesh and remains committed to expanding exchanges and cooperation across all sectors of Bangladeshi society, including the military, in support of the country's development.
Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's recent visit to China, Yao said the trip had produced fruitful outcomes, with both countries agreeing to upgrade the China-Bangladesh Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and work towards building a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.
He said China has always followed an independent foreign policy of peace, adding that its defence policy is also guided by the principle of peaceful development.
Yao also said China is prepared to work with Bangladesh and the international community to promote "an equal and orderly multipolar world" and "universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation," while advancing the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative.
The lecture was attended by NDC Commandant Lieutenant General Md Faizur Rahman, more than 100 officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and representatives of foreign militaries.
Following the session, the Chinese envoy exchanged views with participants and answered questions on China-US relations, China-India relations, BRICS and the Rohingya issue.
