Bangladesh seeks stronger labour cooperation with Oman, reaffirms zero tolerance for illegal migration

Bangladesh has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against illegal migration, while stressing the importance of sending skilled and semi-skilled workers abroad through legal channels.
The stance was highlighted during a meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and Oman's Ambassador to Bangladesh Jamil Haji Ismail Al Balushi today (10 May).
The Omani envoy paid a courtesy call on the state minister at her office in Dhaka, where the two sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in areas including trade, investment, culture, sports and the economy, read a release.
During the meeting, the state minister praised the constructive role played by the leadership of Oman in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East region.

Highlighting the importance of overseas employment, Shama Obaed Islam expressed appreciation to the Omani government for hosting a large Bangladeshi expatriate community in the Sultanate.
She reiterated Bangladesh's strict stance against illegal migration and stressed that the government is prioritising the migration of skilled and semi-skilled workers so they can contribute more effectively to both the host countries' economies and Bangladesh's development.
The meeting also touched on multilateral cooperation, with the state minister thanking Oman for supporting Bangladesh's candidacy in the election for the president of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
