China to resume crab imports from Bangladesh
Bangladesh can again export crabs and eels to China as the East Asian nation has recently updated its list of sourcing countries and species of edible aquatic animals.
In a latest step, the General Administration of China Customs (GACC) has added crab to the existing eel sourcing from Bangladesh.
On 22 December, China had excluded crab from the list of edible aquatic animals exported from Bangladesh.

In line with the new decision, the GACC sent a draft of the new protocol to the commercial wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in China and requested it to give feedback on the protocol, read a notification issued by the embassy on 24 March.
The GACC also assured that necessary processes would be started to register enterprises to export crabs and eels once feedback from Bangladesh was received.
Md Monsour Uddin, commercial counsellor of the Bangladesh embassy in China, said, "Through continuous communication by the embassy and also the collective efforts from the ministries and departments concerned, finally, we got the approval to export crabs and eels to China."
He said China is Bangladesh's biggest export destination for crabs and eels.
"For uninterrupted supply of edible aquatic products to the Chinese market, we need to maintain the standard of our export items," he added.
