UCB to prepare 2024–25 GHG inventory with EY advisory support
United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) has signed an agreement with Ernst & Young Advisory Services Bangladesh Limited (EY ASBL) to strengthen its carbon accounting and emissions measurement practices.
The agreement was signed recently at UCB's corporate office. Under the agreement, EY ASBL will support UCB in preparing its greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for the 2024–25 financial year, the bank said.
UCB said the exercise will measure and analyse emissions generated from its operations, covering direct emissions (scope 1), indirect emissions from electricity and energy use (scope 2), and other indirect emissions linked to operational activities (scope 3). The bank said the assessment will help it better understand its environmental footprint and develop a clearer emissions roadmap.
Representing UCB at the signing ceremony were Additional Managing Director and CRO Nabil Mustafizur Rahman; CFO Faruk Ahmed; SEVP Saiful Islam; CCO Zishan Kingshuk Haq; and SEVP (GSD) Mohammad Asif Qureshi, along with other senior officials.
From EY ASBL, Managing Director Nowshad Ekramullah, Associate Director Rana Sohel and Manager Ibrahim Redwan were present.
UCB said the partnership will support its sustainable finance initiatives and help improve its ESG reporting in line with international standards. The bank added that the initiative reflects its focus on environmental responsibility alongside financial performance.
