Summit LNG begins supplying 110mmcfd to national grid
Summit LNG Terminal began supplying around 110 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of regasified liquefied natural gas to Bangladesh's national gas grid at 6:10pm on 14 August, providing additional supply amid continuing shortages.
The terminal was expected to increase its supply gradually to its full capacity of around 550mmcfd by 2am on 15 August, according to a press release.
The increased supply is expected to improve gas availability for industries, power generation and other consumers.
It could also support economic activity and ease pressure on the country's energy system.
Summit LNG said it remained committed to maintaining safe and reliable operations and maximising gas delivery within the technical capacity of the terminal and the national transmission system.
The company said an adequate and uninterrupted energy supply was essential for Bangladesh's industrial growth, employment and economic development.
It will continue working closely with Petrobangla and the Government of Bangladesh to support the country's energy security and help ease gas shortages.
