Prepaid meter recharge back to normal after 17-hour outage: WZPDCL
The West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) has resolved the technical glitch in its prepaid metering system, restoring vending services after an interruption of nearly 17 hours.
Normal vending operations resumed at 6:30am today (15 September, 2026) following swift interventions by the company's technical teams, according to a press release.
The technical disruption began at 1:15pm yesterday (14 September, 2026) when connectivity between the application server and the database server of the prepaid metering system failed, bringing recharge and metering activities to a halt across its coverage areas.
A specialised technical team from the WZPDCL prepaid metering division worked continuously to fix the connectivity issues and bring the systems back online.
Assistant Manager (PR) of WZPDCL Md Mahbubur Rahman said: "The technical disruption temporarily halted prepaid meter vending activities. The technical team worked promptly to resolve the issue, and vending operations are now functioning normally."
Rahman added that the authorities sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to consumers during the shutdown, noting that necessary technical measures have been taken to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Prepaid electricity consumers across various regions under the utility provider faced difficulties while the service was down, but they can now recharge their prepaid meters as usual.
