New home-based programme to aid children with disabilities

A Dhaka-based non-profit organisation has launched a home-based intervention programme for children with developmental disabilities in underserved communities, offering free assessment and support services to families who are unable to access specialised care.

Hope For Children recently conducted an outreach workshop in Hazaribagh's Bou Bazar, where trained professionals visited four families to assess children showing signs of autism and developmental delays. Parents were trained in therapeutic techniques using common household items, such as rice, lentils, and flour, aimed at improving communication, motor skills, and daily independence.

Hope For Children enrolled the children in its school for ongoing education and therapy, and also provided developmental resources and food supplies to their families.

The organisation has so far supported more than 50 families in areas including Kamrangirchar and Hazaribagh, through online and offline workshops. Distinguished by its home-based model, the programme seeks to directly reach families who otherwise lack access, bridging gaps in Bangladesh's special education landscape, where children with treatable conditions often remain undiagnosed.

Hope For Children will expand its free services to more communities in Dhaka and beyond.
