MTB, SME Foundation sign deal to support SME financing
Mutual Trust Bank PLC and SME Foundation signed an agreement on 16 June at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka to expand access to finance for entrepreneurs in priority sectors under the Credit Wholesaling Programme, with loans offered at an interest rate of 8%.
Under the programme, loans will be provided at an interest rate of 8%.
The signing ceremony for the agreement was held at the InterContinental Dhaka on 16 June.
Chowdhury Akhtar Asif, Acting Managing Director of Mutual Trust Bank PLC, and Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, Managing Director of SME Foundation, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
The ceremony was chaired by Abdun Naser Khan, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries.
Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir, Minister of Industries, attended the event as the chief guest.
Md Mokhtar Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, attended as a special guest.
Nurun Nahar, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank; Sanjib Kumar Dey, Head of SME and Agri Banking Division of Mutual Trust Bank PLC; and other officials of SME Foundation and Mutual Trust Bank PLC were also present.
In line with policy guidelines, the programme will prioritise financing for entrepreneurs in key SME sub-sectors, SME clusters, underserved and climate-vulnerable regions, women-led enterprises, rural and marginal businesses, green technology ventures, and young entrepreneurs in ICT and innovation-driven industries.
