Lions Club and SAF provide eye care to support rural patients
The Lions Club of Chittagong Dynamic City, in collaboration with the Salma Adil Foundation (SAF), has provided free cataract surgeries to 54 individuals selected from a recent medical camp, as part of an ongoing effort to expand access to critical eye care services.
The surgeries were carried out in two phases at the Chattagram Lions Charitable Eye Hospital and the Institute of Ophthalmology.
Each patient received a one-month supply of prescribed medication and corrective glasses at no cost as part of post-operative care.
All patients are currently in stable condition and recovering well, according to organisers.
The initiative followed a large-scale eye camp at Sharifunnessa-Naziruddin High School in Fatehnagar, Chandanaish.
The camp was organised by the Lions Club of Chittagong Dynamic City, with support from the Salma Adil Foundation.
The event delivered primary eye care services to around 650 local residents.
Screenings identified 85 individuals with cataract-related complications requiring advanced surgical intervention.
Of those identified, 54 patients were admitted for the first phase of surgeries, conducted by a team of specialist ophthalmologists.
The organising institutions said the remaining patients would receive treatment in subsequent phases.
