Islami Bank appoints new managing director
Md Omar Faruk Khan, a seasoned leader in Bangladesh's banking sector, has been appointed as the Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, effective 3 August 2025.
Prior to this appointment, he had been serving as the bank's MD (Current Charge).
Faruk Khan previously held the position of Acting Managing Director at NRB Bank PLC. He began his banking career at Islami Bank in 1986, following the completion of his master's degree in Sociology from the University of Dhaka.
His career, spanning nearly four decades in the banking sector, includes leadership roles across key departments, such as Treasury, Foreign Trade, and Corporate Investment, as well as various divisions at the head office. He has also managed various zones and branches, including the bank's local office.
He is a Diplomaed Associate of the Institute of Bankers, Bangladesh, and also holds the Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS) qualification from the London Institute of Banking and Finance, which is affiliated with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
Demonstrating his commitment to growth, Faruk Khan has participated in numerous influential seminars and training programmes on international banking and credit management in Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, China, Malaysia, Qatar, Thailand, India, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Nepal.
