GAU marks 28th university day with festive celebrations
Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) celebrated its 28th University Day in a vibrant and festive atmosphere, centred on the theme "Celebrating Excellence, Proudly Leading the Way in 2025".
The day marks the institution's transformation from IPSA into Bangladesh's thirteenth public university in 1998.
The university highlighted its recent national and global achievements, including top positions in THE Rankings 2025 and 2026, first place nationally and seventy-seventh globally in the WURI Ranking 2025, and recognition as the country's top agricultural university by QS. GAU researchers have so far developed ninety-three improved crop varieties and more than twenty agricultural technologies, strengthening the university's role in national innovation.
The celebration began with the national anthem and flag-hoisting led by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr G K M Mustafizur Rahman, followed by a symbolic balloon release and a colourful rally across the campus. A discussion session featured remarks from the Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, and Registrar, who highlighted the university's expanding global footprint and commitment to academic excellence.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor said: "GAU is moving forward and will continue to do so. The strong foundation we have built over twenty-eight years is the result of the collective effort of our students, teachers, officers, staff, and esteemed researchers. Today reminds us that we carry responsibility, we hold immense potential, and we are shaping Bangladesh's future in food security, agricultural innovation, and sustainable development. Together, we will build a humane, research-friendly, and modern university that stands as a global benchmark."
The day concluded with special prayers, a cultural programme, and decorative lighting across the campus.
