DIU honours 700 researchers, students and staff
Daffodil International University recognised the contributions of 700 faculty members, researchers, administrative staff, students, and alumni at its Research Award-Giving Ceremony 2026, reaffirming its commitment to academic and research excellence.
The ceremony took place today, 8 July, at the International Conference Hall of Knowledge Tower in Daffodil Smart City, where the university presented the awards.
The event highlighted the university's drive to transform academic research into patentable and commercially viable solutions.
Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Islam, a member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University Professor Dr MR Kabir, in his welcome address, highlighted the university's commitment to a vibrant and purposeful research ecosystem.
Chairman of Daffodil International University, Dr Md Sabur Khan, in a special video message, urged the academic community to develop systems to ensure research at the university is not only published but also patented and commercialised.
Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Islam emphasised applied and impactful research, urging universities to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, link research to social responsibility, and produce knowledge that benefits communities, influences national policy and addresses real-world challenges.
Director of the Division of Research at Daffodil International University Dr Mahfuza Parveen presented an overview of the university's research milestones.
She said the university's research output reached 695 publications by mid-2026, following an increase from 1,010 papers in 2022 to 1,487 in 2025, with a focus on Q1 and Q2 Scopus-indexed journals.
She also noted that Daffodil International University is managing 138 external projects and that its researchers secured approximately Tk5 crore in competitive national and international grants over the past year.
The event featured an award distribution ceremony recognising 700 recipients, including faculty members, researchers, administrative staff, students and alumni, with the awards presented during the programme.
Special awards were also presented for outstanding research achievements and to the winners of the poster competition.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University Professor Dr Mohammed Masum Iqbal delivered the closing remarks, congratulating the awardees and thanking the organisers.
The event was attended by Registrar Dr Mohammed Nadir Bin Ali, Treasurer Dr Hamidul Haque Khan, Controller of Examinations Mominul Haque Majumder, and Librarian Dr Md Milan Khan, along with deans, associate deans, department heads, faculty members, and selected students.
Daffodil International University said the ceremony reaffirmed its commitment to research, innovation and sustainable development.
