Daffodil signs MoU with DPDT to set up innovation support centre
Daffodil International University has partnered with the Department of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks (DPDT), under the Ministry of Industries, to establish a Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) on its campus, aiming to bolster Bangladesh's innovation and intellectual property ecosystem.
The MoU was signed in the university's conference room, with DPDT Director General Md Jahangir Hossain as the chief guest. Other attendees included Director Dr Ashok Kumar Roy, Deputy Director Md Habibur Rahman, Board of Trustees Chairman Dr Md Sabur Khan, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr MR Kabir, deans, department heads, faculty, and administrative and research officials.
DPDT Director General Md Jahangir Hossain underscored the critical role of industry–academia collaboration in developing commercially viable patents. He highlighted the expanding significance of patents in driving industry-oriented innovation. Deputy Director Md Habibur Rahman provided an overview of the patent filing process and detailed the strategic benefits of the new TISC.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr MR Kabir reiterated the university's commitment to applied research, noting that securing a patent equates to the value of multiple research projects. He outlined the university's incentives and facilities to promote research and patent generation.
Director General Md Jahangir Hossain and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr MR Kabir formally signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the agreement, the TISC will provide students, researchers and innovators with comprehensive support in patent searches, application processes, and intellectual property protection.
University leaders expect the initiative to foster innovation and research among students, translating ideas into impactful outcomes. They expressed confidence that the collaboration will advance Bangladesh's innovation landscape and support the development of a knowledge-based economy.
