BRAC supports tournament to nurture girls’ football in Kalsindur
Kalsindur, a remote village famed for producing Bangladesh's leading women footballers, has once again become a focal point for sporting excellence as global anticipation builds for the FIFA World Cup.
In this context, the Indomitable Women's Football Tournament 2026 was held in Kalsindur and featured players from the local football academy.
The tournament, organised by BRAC, was held recently in Kalsindur, which lies at the foothills of the Garo Hills near the India–Bangladesh border.
The local academy has produced numerous female footballers who have represented Bangladesh internationally, bringing distinction to the nation.
Since 2025, BRAC has partnered with the academy to advance women's football, providing players with training and equipment.
The partnership is creating pathways for players to progress to age-group and national teams, while nurturing future talent.
Notable national team players from Kalsindur include Sanjida Akter, Maria Manda, Tohura Khatun, Shamsunnahar Sr, Shamsunnahar Jr and Sheuli Azim.
The highly anticipated SAFF Championship final between Bangladesh and India was also held recently.
With several Kalsindur players representing Bangladesh, football fever gripped the village, creating a festive atmosphere.
Organised in anticipation of the World Cup, the tournament saw Kalsindur's footballers represent Argentina, Brazil, Germany and Bangladesh.
In the final, Argentina defeated Bangladesh in a penalty shootout.
Bangladesh striker Hasina and midfielder Pinky were ultimately outperformed by Argentina's Sathi, Jim and Ritika, whose skill and teamwork dominated the pitch.
A large, enthusiastic crowd made the tournament a memorable occasion.
Md Mosharraf Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Dobaura; Sub-Inspector Md Sharif Uddin of Dobaura Police Station; Md Abdul Hashem, Principal of Kalsindur Government School and College; AKM Delwar Hussain Mukul, President of the Mymensingh District Football Association; Md Anwar Hossain Khan, Chairman of Gamaritola Union Parishad; Md Jahangir Alam, District Coordinator of BRAC in Mymensingh; Nice Khatun, Regional Manager of BRAC Microfinance; and Suhrid Swagata, Communication Lead of BRAC Microfinance, presented prizes to the players.
