BMU observes university day with rally, tree plantation
Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) marked its 29th University Day, underscoring its commitment to advancing medical education, healthcare, and research through a rally, a tree-planting drive, and enhanced patient meals.
BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr FM Siddiqui opened the rally in front of B Block, the university said in a press release.
The rally ended at the BMU Super Specialised Hospital, where the vice-chancellor planted a tree.
Prof Siddiqui emphasised BMU's dedication to elevating medical education, healthcare, and research to international standards, reinforcing the university's central mission.
He expressed hope that BMU would foster innovation and provide advanced treatment for complex diseases, aiming to reduce the need for patients to seek care abroad.
The vice-chancellor noted this year's University Day was observed on a smaller scale due to the current situation.
As part of the programmes, the university planted over 100 fruit trees and provided enhanced meals to patients.
Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad (Administration), Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader (Research and Development), Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam (Academic Affairs), Treasurer Professor Dr Nahreen Akhter, and Registrar Professor Dr Md Mostafa Kamal also joined the tree planting.
Faculty, physicians, officials, nurses, technologists, and staff at all levels joined the events.
Fruit trees planted included mango, olive, coconut, litchi, amla, pomegranate, and rose apple.
Founded on 30 April 1998, BMU has eight faculties, 59 academic departments, 55 affiliated institutions, 5,161 students, and 1,792 hospital beds, including 878 free beds.
National and university flags were hoisted and balloons released to mark the day.
