Bank Asia recognised by Bangladesh Bank for post-COVID employment support
Bank Asia PLC was recognised by Bangladesh Bank for its contribution to the Supporting Post-COVID-19 Small-Scale Employment Creation Project, funded by the Asian Development Bank.
The bank received a Certificate of Recognition of Excellence for its outstanding role in the initiative.
During a seminar at Bangladesh Bank headquarters in Dhaka on 11 June 2026, Nurun Nahar, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, presented the Certificate of Recognition of Excellence to Syed Zulkar Nayen, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Retail Banking at Bank Asia PLC.
The project is being implemented by Bangladesh Bank, with financial support from the Asian Development Bank.
The seminar spotlighted the project's achievements in driving post-pandemic employment through enhanced access to finance and targeted support for cottage, micro, and small enterprises, women entrepreneurs, young people, and returned migrant workers.
Ali Sabet, Cottage, Micro and Small Enterprise Banking Specialist at the Asian Development Bank; Mohammad Saifuddowla, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Small Business at Bank Asia PLC; and Shaharea Siddikey, proprietor of Rokeya Polli, attended the event, among others.
Bank Asia PLC stated that it financed the project through its nationwide agent banking network, supporting rural entrepreneurship, job creation, and broad economic expansion across Bangladesh by providing greater access to finance for cottage, micro, and small enterprises, women entrepreneurs, young people, and returned migrant workers.
