National Bank appoints Md Akhter Hossain as independent director
Former EXIM Bank acting MD brings over 37 years of banking experience to the board
The National Bank PLC has appointed Md Akhter Hossain as an independent director following approval from Bangladesh Bank under Sections 45 and 47(3) of the Bank Company Act, 1991.
According to a press release issued today (1 July), the central bank approved the appointment on 24 June. Hossain joined the bank's board as an independent director at its 547th board meeting.
Hossain has more than 37 years of experience in Bangladesh's banking and financial sector. He began his career in 1988 as a senior officer at Agrani Bank PLC and later held senior leadership positions at Mercantile Bank PLC, Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC and EXIM Bank PLC.
During his career, he served as managing director (current charge) of EXIM Bank PLC and as additional managing director and deputy managing director of Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC. He also served as a nominated director of Shahjalal Islami Bank Securities Ltd.
Hossain has expertise in banking operations, treasury, foreign trade, credit risk management, compliance and corporate governance. He has also contributed to banking education and professional development as a lecturer, trainer, examiner and moderator at the Institute of Bankers Bangladesh.
Hossain earned his BCom (Honours) and MCom in Accounting from the University of Dhaka and completed an MBA at the University of Hull in the United Kingdom under the Bank of England Scholarship Programme.
He is also an Associate of the Institute of Bankers Bangladesh (AIBB).
