EBL posts 25% profit growth to Tk439cr in H1

Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) posted a 25% year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit in the first half of 2026.

According to the bank's unaudited financial statements approved at a board meeting today (27 July), consolidated net profit stood at Tk439 crore during the January-June period.

The bank's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) increased to Tk2.67 for the first half of 2026 from a restated Tk2.14 in the corresponding period last year. On a standalone basis, EPS rose to Tk2.61 from Tk2.35.

EBL's profitability also improved during the April-June quarter, with consolidated EPS rising to Tk1.46 from Tk1.20 a year earlier, indicating stronger earnings momentum in the second quarter.                                                             

The bank attributed its strong performance to higher investment in government securities, which have become more attractive amid elevated treasury yields, alongside continued growth in non-funded income and improved operational efficiency.

However, net operating cash flow per share declined to Tk7.57 in the first half from Tk13.10 in the same period last year. 

EBL's financial position also strengthened during the period. Consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share increased to Tk30.71 as of 30 June 2026 from Tk27.07 a year earlier. On a standalone basis, NAV per share stood at Tk31.12.

The bank has consistently maintained one of the lowest non-performing loan ratios in the banking sector through prudent credit management and efficient operations.

Analysts expect EBL's ongoing expansion of digital banking services and steady growth in fee-based income from trade finance, cards and other banking services to provide further support to earnings in the coming months.

The lender paid a 25% cash dividend and a 3% stock dividend for 2025.
