Minister directs Dhaka airport to cut baggage delivery time, introduce live tracking
Millat orders better coordination between ground handlers and airlines and real-time baggage updates for passengers.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat has directed authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to reduce passengers' waiting time for baggage and introduce real-time tracking of the baggage-handling process.
He issued the instructions during a surprise inspection of the airport today (6 September), when he monitored baggage handling for a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight operating on the Jeddah-Chattogram-Dhaka route, according to a ministry press release.
The flight landed at around 1pm, and the minister observed the entire baggage-handling process, from opening the aircraft's cargo hold and unloading luggage to delivering bags to passengers.
Millat instructed officials to coordinate the opening of passenger gates and the aircraft's cargo hold immediately after landing so baggage handling can begin without delay.
He also directed ground-handling staff to ensure they are stationed at the airport in a planned and timely manner before each flight arrives.
To keep passengers informed, the minister ordered the installation of live monitoring screens at the airport showing the progress of baggage handling in real time.
Millat also inspected several airport washrooms and instructed officials to ensure proper cleanliness and maintenance.
Passenger comfort and service quality must be given priority, he said.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines Managing Director Kaizer Sohail Ahmed, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice Marshal Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq and senior officials from Biman and CAAB were present during the inspection.
