Aviation minister orders zero tolerance on luggage theft, stresses respectful passenger service to Biman
She also emphasised that all staff, including cabin crew, must maintain respectful and professional behaviour with passengers, particularly expatriate workers who play a vital role in the country’s economy through remittances.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita has directed strict action against luggage theft and called for improved passenger service standards during a visit to the headquarters of Biman Bangladesh Airlines today (30 March).
The minister, along with State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, visited Biman's Balaka Building in Kurmitola, where they held a meeting with senior officials and reviewed the airline's operations, including its route network, fleet expansion plans, financial performance, service quality, and upcoming Hajj operations.
Issuing firm directives, the minister said a "zero tolerance" policy must be strictly enforced against any incidents of luggage theft, stressing that no leniency will be allowed in such cases.
She also emphasised that all staff, including cabin crew, must maintain respectful and professional behaviour with passengers, particularly expatriate workers who play a vital role in the country's economy through remittances.
Highlighting service gaps, she instructed officials to ensure greater transparency in ticket sales, noting complaints of ticket shortages despite flights departing with empty seats. She directed authorities to monitor and address such irregularities effectively.
The minister further said that Hajj operations must be conducted smoothly, safely, and on time, with the highest priority given to ensuring passenger satisfaction. She also stressed the importance of maintaining proper cleanliness and environmental standards across all operations.
Describing Biman as a "symbol of national pride," she said the government is committed to transforming the airline into a modern, competitive, and passenger-friendly organisation.
State Minister Millat assured continued government support for Biman's growth and asked the authority to submit a detailed operational plan for 2026-2031 to assist in future decision-making, particularly in light of plans to add new aircraft by 2032.
During the visit, the ministers also toured the Biman Flight Catering Centre and exchanged views with officials.
