Passengers suffer as 13km tailback hits Dhaka-Chattogram Highway

A nearly 13-kilometre tailback formed on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Gazaria stretch of Munshiganj today (24 May), causing severe suffering for passengers and drivers.
The congestion began around 4am and intensified as the day progressed. Traffic movement on the highway returned to normal around 11:30am.
According to sources, the tailback stretched along the Cumilla-bound lane across the Gazaria section, leaving trucks, long-haul buses and private vehicles stranded for hours at different points on the highway.

Truck driver Shamim Mia said he was heading to Chattogram but had been stuck in traffic for about an hour near Jamaldi bus stand.
"I'm sleepy and don't know what to do. I heard the congestion was caused by an accident in Daudkandi," he said.
Another driver, Shahid, said he had been stuck since the Baluakandi area and was unsure when he would reach his destination.
A passenger expressed frustration, saying traffic congestion is frequent on the highway, making it difficult to reach destinations on time.
Gazaria Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shah Kamal Akand said the congestion was caused by a road accident in Daudkandi, Cumilla.
He added that efforts were underway to control the situation and traffic movement was expected to return to normal soon.
