Shama Obaed praises IFRC's humanitarian support at farewell meeting with outgoing delegation head
The state minister appreciated the organisation's continued support during floods, cyclones and other climate-induced disasters.
Outgoing Head of Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to Bangladesh Alberto Bocanegra today (26 July) paid a farewell call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at her office in Dhaka.
During the meeting, Bocanegra briefed the state minister on the IFRC's key humanitarian activities and achievements during his tenure, highlighting the organisation's work in disaster preparedness, climate resilience, health services and support for displaced populations.
He also expressed appreciation for the Bangladesh government's continued cooperation and support throughout his tenure.

Shama Obaed congratulated Bocanegra on the successful completion of his tenure and praised his leadership of the IFRC in Bangladesh.
She also acknowledged the IFRC's longstanding partnership with Bangladesh since the Liberation War and its contributions to emergency response and humanitarian assistance.
The state minister particularly appreciated the organisation's continued support during floods, cyclones and other climate-induced disasters, as well as its assistance to the Rohingya humanitarian response.
She underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IFRC to advance climate resilience initiatives, with a special focus on women and children.
Shama Obaed wished Bocanegra success in his future assignments and expressed confidence that the partnership between Bangladesh and the IFRC would continue to grow under the leadership of his successor.
