Shama Obaed calls for unity beyond political divides to safeguard democracy
The state minister urged people to remain united to protect democracy, voting rights and the rule of law while warning against conspiracies that could undermine the country's progress.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam today (5 August) called on people to remain united beyond political differences to strengthen democracy, protect voting rights and uphold citizens' fundamental rights.
She made the remarks while addressing a discussion and victory rally in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur marking July Mass Uprising Day.
Paying tribute to those killed during the July Uprising, Shama also remembered all who sacrificed their lives in the anti-autocracy movement over the past 17 years.

She said their sacrifices would remain an enduring part of Bangladesh's democratic journey and had given new momentum to the struggle for people's rights.
Emphasising the importance of national unity, the state minister urged people, regardless of political affiliation, to work together to uphold democracy, the rule of law, voting rights and fundamental rights.
She also called on citizens to remain vigilant against any conspiracy that could undermine the country's development, peace and democratic continuity.
