Shahadat made Chattogram City Corporation administrator
The appointment will remain in effect until a new corporation is formed.
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain has been appointed as the corporation's full-time administrator under the Local Government (City Corporation) Amendment Act, 2026.
The Local Government Division issued a notification today (25 October), signed by Deputy Secretary Jewel Rana on behalf of the president.
According to the notification, Shahadat will serve as administrator until a new city corporation is formed or further instructions are issued. During this period, he will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor under Section 4(3) of the amended law.
He will also receive the monthly honorarium and other allowances prescribed by the relevant rules.
Shahadat had been serving as the Chattogram city mayor since November 2024. Earlier, the BNP leader had challenged the results of the city corporation election held on 27 January 2021.
Following the government change after the July uprising, a court ruled in his favour and declared him the elected mayor in its verdict on 1 October 2024.
