A baby rhesus macaque was rescued from a residential house in Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari today (12 July).
Forest Department officials rescued the infant monkey around 2pm from a house near Kathaltali Government Primary School in Boalkhali Bazar.
Md Jafar Ullah, deputy ranger of the Merung Range under the Khagrachhari Forest Division, told The Business Standard that the rescued monkey has been taken into the department's custody for observation.

The rhesus macaque, commonly known as the rhesus monkey, is one of Bangladesh's most familiar wild mammals. It feeds mainly on fruits, seeds, tender leaves, tree bark and insects.
Jafar said the rhesus macaque is listed as 'least concern' on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. However, it is a protected species under Bangladesh's Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, 2012.
He added that the species is widely distributed across South, Central and Southeast Asia and is often found near human settlements as well as in forests.
