The Rajshahi University (RU) administration has formed a five-member investigation committee to probe the attack by Chhatra Dal activists on journalists at campus today (5 October).
Meanwhile, the hall administration is in the process of filing a case over the attack.
RU Proctor Prof Dr Mahbubur Rahman said a five-member investigation committee has been formed to investigate the attack on campus journalists by Chhatra Dal activists. He added that the hall administration is in the process of filing a case with Motihar Police Station over the incident.
Earlier, the journalists called a human chain in front of Rabindra Bhaban on campus at 11am today and expressed anger over the failure to form an investigation committee even 14 hours after the attack.
The incident took place around 8:30pm yesterday (4 October) in front of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall, leaving several journalists injured, including four who sustained serious injuries.
Following the attack, journalists demanded that the university file a case against those accused, arrest them and take disciplinary action.
They later withdrew their protest programmes after the university administration assured them that a case would be filed by today.
However, this morning, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr Mamunur Rashid said Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Faridul Islam was not on campus.
"He will return in the afternoon. The investigation committee will be formed afterwards," Prof Rashid said.
Several leaders and activists of the university unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, including its Vice-President Ahsan Habib, have been accused of involvement in the attack last night.
The severely injured journalists include bdnews24.com's RU correspondent Arifuzzaman Korban, Agamir Shomoy correspondent Zahidul Islam, The Daily Star correspondent Nur Ahsan Mridul and Samakal correspondent Mainul Islam Raju.
In protest against the attack, journalists have demanded that the university administration file a case against those accused, ensure their arrest by noon, cancel the student status of students involved in the attack and revoke the certificates of those who have already completed their studies.
They have also demanded a ban on campus entry for those accused who are not university students.
