Protesters threaten to block NCP programmes in Brahmanbaria unless Hasnat apologises for parliament remarks
Earlier, in parliament on Thursday (27 August), Hasnat criticised the government for failing to take effective measures after cultural programmes were cancelled at police lines in Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria.
Protesters identifying themselves as Qawmi madrasah students have warned that the National Citizen Party's scheduled programmes in Brahmanbaria will not be allowed unless its MP Md Abul Hasnat, popularly known as Hasnat Abdullah, apologises for his remarks in parliament.
They held the protest under the banner of "the Qawmi Students' Unity Council" around 11:45pm yesterday (28 August).
The demonstrators started a procession in Kandipara, marched through the town's main roads and held a protest in front of the Brahmanbaria Press Club.

Hasnat alleged that a situation has emerged in Brahmanbaria where cultural activities are being stopped.
Yesterday's protesters criticised Hasnat's remarks about recent incidents in Brahmanbaria, chanted slogans against him and demanded that he apologise to the people of the district.
They warned that the NCP's scheduled organisational coordination meeting and political workshop will not be allowed to take place unless Hasnat apologises.
The events are scheduled for this afternoon at the Shilpakala Academy, Brahmanbaria.
