Protesters block Shahbagh intersection demanding Bhola-Barishal bridge
The blockade caused severe traffic congestion
A group of protesters, campaigning for the immediate construction of a bridge connecting Bhola and Barishal, blocked Shahbagh intersection in the capital yesterday afternoon, disrupting traffic movement.
The demonstration, led by organisations including "Amra Bholabashi" and "Bhola Nagorik Forum," began around 4pm when activists occupied the intersection.
The blockade caused severe traffic congestion from the Paltan-Gulistan area towards the Press Club, from Katabon towards Science Lab and Dhanmondi, and on the major artery running from the InterContinental hotel towards Karwan Bazar.
Residents of Bhola have been holding protests and sit-in programmes at Shahbagh to press for their demand since 21 November.
