Budget charts course for democratic, humane and inclusive economy: Mahdi Amin
Taxes on essential commodities has been reduced to help contain inflation and ease pressure on consumers, says the adviser
Prime Minister's Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education, Mahdi Amin, has described the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026-27 as a roadmap toward a democratic, humane and inclusive economy.
In a Facebook post today (11 June), he thanked PM Tarique for presenting what he called a people-oriented budget based on the BNP's election manifesto.
Mahdi said the budget reflects the aspirations of people from all walks of life and includes major initiatives in 12 priority sectors, including education, healthcare, employment, ICT, agriculture, social protection, infrastructure, energy and climate action.
He said taxes on essential commodities such as rice, pulses, fish, meat, sugar, salt, edible oil and spices had been reduced to help contain inflation and ease pressure on consumers.
The adviser said the budget seeks to expand equitable access to education and healthcare, strengthen support for farmers through easier access to agricultural inputs and insurance, and promote renewable energy through incentives.
He added that the budget prioritises investment, business expansion, easier access to bank loans and job creation, while supporting startups, freelancing, outsourcing and other technology-driven enterprises.
Mahdi also noted that the budget contains no provision for whitening undisclosed money and instead prioritises the recovery of laundered funds. He said reforms in the banking sector and capital market would strengthen governance, improve customer protection and reduce corruption.
According to him, the budget aims to reduce administrative spending, increase development expenditure, broaden the tax base and formalise economic activity to support sustainable, inclusive growth. He expressed confidence that Bangladesh would continue to progress despite future challenges.
