PM to launch 3-month dengue prevention campaign on Saturday

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will launch a three-month special cleanliness and public awareness campaign on dengue prevention on Saturday (12 September), aimed at curbing the spread of dengue across the country.

Speaking at a meeting on dengue prevention at the Bangladesh Secretariat, the prime minister urged people to participate in the campaign and stressed that dengue control should go beyond mosquito-killing activities.

He directed local administrations, voluntary organisations and students to be directly involved in field-level operations.

Under the campaign, city corporations will coordinate activities in metropolitan areas, while deputy commissioners will oversee district-level operations and upazila nirbahi officers will coordinate drives at the upazila level.

Volunteers from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Bangladesh Scouts, Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC), Girl Guides and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, along with school and college students, will participate in the campaign.

Every Saturday, volunteers and students will visit homes and other establishments to conduct cleanliness drives, identify potential Aedes mosquito breeding grounds and raise awareness about keeping residential and surrounding areas clean.

The prime minister also instructed authorities to intensify dengue awareness campaigns through television, other mass media and social media platforms.

He said the next three months would be crucial for containing dengue and called for greater public participation alongside government efforts.

Tarique urged authorities to encourage regular cleaning of homes, educational institutions, government and private establishments and surrounding areas to eliminate potential breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.
