Rail link with Sylhet restored after 5 hours as derailed wagon cleared
Stranded Jayantika Express resumed its journey after the track was cleared.
Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country resumed after nearly five hours following the recovery of a derailed wagon inside Lawachara National Park in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar District today (29 May).
Train movement returned to normal around 8:30pm after the derailed wagon was removed from the track, Shamshernagar Railway Station Master Rajat Kumar Roy confirmed.
The incident occurred around 3:30pm when an empty wagon of an oil-carrying train travelling from Sylhet towards Akhaura went off the tracks in the forest area between the Kamalganj-Sreemangal railway section.
Railway sources said the wagon had already unloaded fuel in Sylhet and was heading towards Akhaura, which is why no major damage or casualties were reported.
Recovery work continued for nearly five hours, with a hydraulic tool van brought in to lift and clear the derailed wagon from the tracks.
Rajat Kumar Roy said the rescue train cleared the line, restoring connectivity on the Sylhet-Dhaka and Sylhet-Chattogram routes.
He added that the stranded Jayantika Express also resumed its journey after the track was cleared.
