Man injured in alleged BSF firing along Jhenaidah border
A 31-year-old Bangladeshi man was injured in an alleged BSF firing incident along the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah early Tuesday (4 August), though the Indian border force denied opening fire.
A Bangladeshi man was injured in an alleged firing incident by India's Border Security Force (BSF) along the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah early today (4 August), according to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
In a press release, the BGB said the incident occurred at around 12:30am in an orchard located approximately 500 yards inside Indian territory, opposite the Shyamkur Mathpara area, between border pillars 60/158-R and 60/159-R.
The injured man was identified as Md Rubel Khan, 31, a resident of Shyamkur Mathpara village in Maheshpur upazila.

He was first taken to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex before being referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
The BGB said it immediately contacted the Mahendra Company Headquarters of the BSF's 194 Battalion following the incident. However, the BSF denied that its personnel had fired rubber bullets.
The border force said it has stepped up surveillance in the area and remains on alert to prevent smuggling and other cross-border crimes.
It also said legal action would be taken against those involved in illegal cross-border activities, while efforts to maintain peace, order and security along the frontier would continue.
