Man critically injured, loses foot in landmine blast near Ukhiya border
At least four people have been killed and more than 31 others injured in landmine explosions along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border over the past year.
A 32-year-old man lost his right foot in a landmine explosion near the Balukhali border in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, today (6 August).
The explosion occurred around 10am inside Myanmar near the zero line of the Naf River in Palongkhali union, said Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar Battalion 34.
The injured man, Bodi Alam, is the son of Sona Mia of Jumerchhara in Ward No 1 of Palongkhali union.

Citing local residents, Lt Col Khairul Alam said Bodi and two or three others went fishing in the Naf River near the Balukhali border this morning.
At one point, a landmine planted inside Myanmar near the zero line exploded, severing Bodi's right foot at the ankle and injuring the right side of his body.
The others rescued him and took him to an MSF-run hospital in Kutupalong.
As his condition was critical, doctors referred him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Earlier, on 28 July, Abdul Karim, 40, was injured in a landmine explosion along the Ghumdhum border in Naikhongchhari.
