Legal action against MP Mishti if allegations over Radda clinic attack proven: Home minister
Salahuddin says chargesheet will be filed if investigation finds preliminary evidence against former reserved-seat MP.
Legal action will be taken against former BNP reserved-seat MP Ferdousy Ahmed Mishti if an investigation establishes allegations of her involvement in the attack, looting and demolition of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said today (1 October).
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat, the home minister said a chargesheet would be filed if the investigation finds preliminary evidence against Mishti.
"If the investigation into the allegations against her finds preliminary evidence, a chargesheet will be filed. The party will also take organisational action. That is outside the law and is an organisational matter," he said.
Salahuddin said Mishti would have to face the legal process if her involvement is established.
"If the allegations against her are proven, legal action will be taken. There will be a chargesheet. If her name appears in the chargesheet, she will have to face the court's jurisdiction. She will come under the law," he said.
However, the minister cautioned against making conclusions about an MP before allegations are established through investigation.
"Until the allegations against an MP are proven, it is not right for us to say anything," he said.
Mishti resigned from Parliament today after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed her to step down following allegations over the Radda centre incident. She submitted her resignation to Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed at the parliament.
Meanwhile, the Parliament Secretariat has declared her reserved women's seat vacant following her resignation under Article 67(2) of the Constitution.
The allegations against Mishti have not been established, and she has denied involvement in the incident.
The Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1 was attacked, looted and partially demolished on the night of 24 September. Heavy machinery was used to demolish parts of the facility, while medical equipment, medicines and other items were reportedly taken away.
The incident triggered an investigation into the alleged involvement of several individuals, including Mishti. The home minister had earlier said that no one would be spared if their involvement was established.
Police have also taken action against officers over negligence in responding to the incident.
Mishti was a joint convener of the Dhaka North City BNP committee, which was dissolved yesterday (30 September). BNP has also taken organisational action against several leaders following the incident.
