Juvenile gang activities will be eliminated within 3 months: Chief whip
Moni says the government is working to identify those backing juvenile gangs and will take action against people involved in mob violence and misinformation.
Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni today (2 October) said the government will eliminate juvenile gang activities within the next three months.
"We do not want to see helmet or hammer groups, and the current government has no intention of creating such groups," he said while addressing a debate programme organised by Debate for Democracy at the Film Development Corporation (FDC) in Dhaka.
He said the government was working to identify people involved in forming mobs and carrying out acts of violence.
Influential groups were directly supporting juvenile gangs, Moni alleged, adding that young people should not be roaming the streets carrying weapons such as machetes.
"They will go to school with books and notebooks, study, develop skills, work with artificial intelligence and enter the era of robotics," he said.
The chief whip alleged that some people currently involved in violence and mob activities had also been involved in similar acts during the previous government.
"We are trying to identify and remove them," he said, adding that abusive language would not be tolerated.
He also said action would be taken against those spreading misinformation through platforms such as YouTube and Facebook.
Moni said the current government was working with a mandate from the people and that no one involved in criminal activities would be spared.
"We have started efforts to control crime from within our own house," he said.
