Home minister orders swift arrest of all suspects in Savar SB officer killing
The minister said the Police Directorate Welfare Fund had already provided the family with Tk6 lakh in financial assistance.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today (17 September) ordered the swift arrest of all suspects involved in the killing of Special Branch (SB) Sub-Inspector (unarmed) Md Altaf Hossain in Aminbazar, Savar, Dhaka.
The minister issued the directive to the relevant police officials when the deceased officer's family met him at his office at the Secretariat this afternoon, according to a press release issued by the Home Ministry.
During the meeting, Salahuddin expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that all possible steps would be taken to ensure a speedy trial in the case.

The minister said the Police Directorate Welfare Fund had already provided the family with Tk6 lakh in financial assistance.
He also announced that Community Bank Bangladesh Limited would provide the necessary loans and other support to help keep the deceased officer's family business running.
Salahuddin further directed the relevant authorities to take steps to award Altaf Hossain the posthumous Police Medal (PPM) in recognition of his integrity and acts of bravery during his career.
On 5 September, at around 7:30pm, Altaf came under attack while attempting to resolve an argument over the parking of an auto-rickshaw in Borodeshi Westpara, Aminbazar.
He took shelter at his elder son's business establishment to save his life. Around 8:10pm, the attackers allegedly arrived there with locally made weapons, rods, pipes, hammers and sticks and launched a brutal assault.
When Altaf's younger son, Md Ariful Islam, attempted to save his father, he was also seriously injured in an attack with sharp weapons.
Local residents later rescued the two injured men and took them to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared SI Altaf Hossain dead.
Following the incident, the deceased officer's wife, Md Shiuli Parvin, filed a murder case with Savar Model Police Station, accusing 15 people.
Altaf Hossain joined Bangladesh Police in 1986 as a constable from Sirajganj district. During his 40-year career, he served with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Rangamati, the Rajshahi Range Reserve Force, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police and Barishal district police.
He had been working with Special Branch in Dhaka since 2011 until his death.
He is survived by his wife, elder son Md Shariful Islam, 30, who completed a BSc in Pharmacy from Manarat University, and younger son Md Ariful Islam, 24, who is studying mechanical engineering at UCEP Polytechnic Institute.
