Diabetic association, OIC's Comstech partner to work on diabetes, NCD prevention

The Centre for Global Health Research of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh and the Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (Comstech) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to boost collaboration on diabetes and non-communicable disease prevention.

The partnership aims to expand cooperation between Bangladesh and OIC member states in diabetes prevention, research, capacity building and public health.

Comstech Coordinator General Professor M Iqbal Choudhary and Diabetic Association President National Professor Dr AK Azad Khan signed the MoU recently, according to a press release. 

Under the agreement, the two organisations will jointly promote the exchange of scientific knowledge, technological innovation and public health expertise, while developing scalable models for diabetes prevention and control that can be replicated across OIC member states.

As part of the collaboration, an international conference titled "Dissemination of the Faith-Based Diabetes Prevention Programme in Bangladesh and the Dhaka Declaration" will be held in Dhaka on 6 August 2026.

The event will bring together national and international experts, policymakers, healthcare professionals, religious leaders and representatives of government and international organisations to showcase Bangladesh's diabetes prevention initiatives and discuss evidence-based strategies for tackling NCDs.

The partnership is expected to strengthen international cooperation in addressing diabetes and other NCDs through research, innovation and knowledge sharing.
