Central Medical Stores Depot to get 14,000sqft pharma-grade warehouse
The nearly one lakh-cubic-foot facility in Tejgaon is being developed with support from the government, UNOPS and the Global Fund to improve the storage of essential medicines and health supplies.
The government has begun construction of a 14,000-square-foot pharma-grade warehouse at the Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD) in Tejgaon, aiming to address storage and supply-chain needs for essential medicines and health products.
Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain laid the foundation stone for the facility today (18 August). The project is being implemented jointly by the Bangladesh government, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Global Fund.
The warehouse will provide nearly one lakh cubic feet of storage capacity and will feature modern electrical systems, HVAC and fire-safety facilities to maintain the required conditions for storing pharmaceutical products.
The facility will be built following pharmaceutical storage standards, the Bangladesh National Building Code and relevant international standards, officials said.
At the ceremony, Health Minister Sakhawat said the project would strengthen the infrastructure needed to ensure a steady supply of essential medicines and health supplies.
"By investing in safe, quality and efficient storage infrastructure, we are strengthening a system that will help ensure uninterrupted availability of essential medicines and health supplies for the people," he said.
He said the facility would also improve storage capacity, operational efficiency and safety while supporting national health programmes.
