6 more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours; death toll rises to 594
At least 90 children have died from confirmed measles infections so far this year. In addition, 504 children have died after exhibiting symptoms consistent with the disease.
Six children died with measles-like syndrome in the 24 hours between 8am yesterday and 8am today (2 June), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), taking the total death toll to 594.
During the same period, 1,292 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country.
Of the newly reported cases, 42 were confirmed as measles through laboratory testing.
According to DGHS data, at least 90 children have died from confirmed measles infections so far this year. In addition, 504 children have died after exhibiting symptoms consistent with the disease.
The latest health bulletin said a total of 9,136 measles cases have been laboratory-confirmed between 15 March and 2 June.
Overall, 73,362 suspected measles cases have been identified nationwide during the period. Of them, 54,812 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment.
