2 more children die of measles in Faridpur, death toll rises to 20
A total of 190 measles patients are currently undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Faridpur
Two more children undergoing treatment for measles died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMCH) last night (1 June), taking the total death toll from the disease at the hospital to 20.
The deceased were identified as seven-month-old Ayan, from Chandibari area of Gopalganj, and two-year-old Adiba, from Lakshmipur area under Faridpur Sadar upazila.
According to hospital sources, both children died while receiving treatment at the hospital last night.
Health officials said the outbreak continues to affect a significant number of people across the district, particularly children.
A total of 190 measles patients are currently undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Faridpur, including 54 who were admitted in the last 24 hours.
So far, 1,912 measles patients have been admitted to hospitals in the district since the outbreak began.
Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr Mahmudul Hasan said the incidence of measles has increased in the district in recent weeks, with children accounting for the majority of infections.
"We have strengthened specialised treatment facilities in local hospitals to handle the situation," he said.
The district health department has urged parents to ensure regular vaccination of their children and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, skin rashes, runny nose or cough appear.
