The government has taken an initiative to formulate the "Best Taxpayer Award Policy 2026" to encourage tax compliance and socially recognize taxpayers.
Under the new policy, a total of 67 individuals, including the highest taxpayers across different sectors, will be awarded as "Best Taxpayers".
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced the initiative while presenting the proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year in parliament today.
He said the policy has been designed to encourage tax payment through social recognition and proper honouring of compliant taxpayers.
According to the proposal, up to 22 sector-wise top taxpayers will be selected among the total 67 awardees.
The award recipients will receive a range of special privileges, including invitations to national events, participation in district and national cultural programmes, priority access at circuit houses, cabin facilities in government hospitals, priority in transport ticketing, access to VIP lounges at airports, and preferential access to tickets for sports events.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at strengthening tax culture in the country by promoting voluntary compliance and recognising responsible taxpayers as contributors to national development.
The government believes that formal recognition and incentives will further expand the tax base and improve revenue mobilisation in the coming fiscal years.
