Gazipur garment factory fire brought under control, 70 rescued
The blaze at Matrix Garments was brought under control around 6pm, with nine Fire Service units deployed
A fire that broke out at a garment factory on the third floor of an eight-storey building in Degir Chala area of Fakir Market in Gazipur this afternoon (3 October) was brought under control around 6pm, the Fire Service and Civil Defence said.
The fire originated at around 2:44pm at Matrix Garments, said Talha Bin Zashim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters media cell.
The FSCD received the report at 2:45pm, and the first firefighting units reached the scene at around 3pm and began working to bring the blaze under control.
A total of nine units were deployed at the scene — three from Gazipur Chowrasta Modern Fire Station, one from Konabari Fire Station, three from Gazipur Fire Station and two from Rajendrapur Fire Station.
At around 4:15pm, Talha Bin Zashim said 70 people had been safely brought down from the building.
No casualties had been reported as of 5pm, he said.
The Fire Service will conduct another search of the building after the fire is completely extinguished, the official added.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
