Fire breaks out at Gazipur garment factory, brought under control in 2 hours
Five firefighting units were initially deployed
A fire broke out at a multi-storey garment factory in the Maleker Bari area of Gazipur this morning (13 June), with the fire service bringing the blaze under control after nearly two hours of efforts, officials said.
According to Md Mamun, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service, the blaze started at around 10am and was fully brought under control by 11:50am after nearly two hours of intensive firefighting efforts.
Fire Service officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported.
Locals and eyewitnesses said flames and thick black smoke were first seen emerging from the sixth floor and spread rapidly.
Workers and local residents initially tried to douse the fire before informing the fire service.
Firefighters from Bhogra Fire Station arrived at the scene and immediately began operations.
Five firefighting units were initially deployed.
A further two units were later added due to the severity of the incident, bringing the total number of responding units to seven.
Officials said precautionary measures were taken throughout the operation to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and businesses.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage have not yet been determined.
An investigation into the incident is expected to be carried out once a full assessment of the site has been completed, officials said.
