IUB launches alumni mentorship programme for accounting students
The Department of Accounting at Independent University, Bangladesh, has launched Career Bridge: Alumni and Mentorship Initiatives, a three-month mentorship initiative connecting students with alumni and industry leaders.
Launched on 30 June 2026, the first cohort comprises six mentors and 22 students selected through a competitive process.
Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Dr Raisul Awal Mahmood, delivered the keynote address, emphasising the critical role of mentorship in personal and professional development.
Rima Hindo, an instructor at McGill University, Canada, and a visiting faculty member at Independent University, Bangladesh, discussed the significance of alumni engagement and the importance of building professional networks.
Mentors on the panel are Mashkawat Hasan Pavel, General Manager of Finance at Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Limited and Fellow Chartered Accountant; Sheikh Tareq Zahir, Partner at Ahmed Sheikh Roy & Co and Fellow Chartered Accountant; Nurul Karim Patwary, Head of Treasury at IDLC Finance PLC; Readud Sajiad, Associate Director at Coats Global and Fellow Chartered Accountant; Julfikar Al Nahian, Head of Merchant Business at City Bank PLC; and Md Kamruzzaman, Co-founder and Managing Partner of M Rashid Zaman & Co, Chartered Accountants and Fellow Chartered Accountant.
During the inaugural event, mentors shared insights on career planning, leadership, industry expectations and professional practice.
Mentor-mentee pairings were announced based on the department's established selection criteria.
Naveed Adnan Siddiquee, senior lecturer of Accounting at Independent University, Bangladesh, moderated the session and outlined the initiative's objectives.
Head of the Department of Accounting, Dr Maqbool Kader Quraishi, delivered the vote of thanks.
Faculty members from the Department of Accounting and heads of other departments under the School of Business and Entrepreneurship were present at the event.
Described by organisers as the first of its kind in Bangladesh, the initiative aims to provide career guidance, professional networking opportunities, industry insights and skills development through direct engagement with alumni and industry leaders.
