Curriculum, academic calendar set for overhaul to boost education quality: Edu minister
Alongside systemic reforms, the government is also working to gradually raise education sector allocation to 5% of the country’s GDP, he says
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said the government is undertaking reforms in curriculum, syllabus, and academic calendars as part of broader efforts to improve the quality of education in the country.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the "China-Bangladesh Education Cooperation Forum-2026" held today (9 May) at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka, jointly organised by the Chinese Embassy and the China-Bangladesh Education and Cultural Exchange Association.
Milon said alongside systemic reforms, the government is also working to gradually raise education sector allocation to 5% of the country's GDP as part of its long-term planning.
"The current government is giving the highest priority to education. Improving quality requires continuous reform of the education system," he said, emphasising teacher development as a key priority, noting that Bangladesh has already taken joint initiatives with China to train both general and technical teachers.
The adviser further said Bangladesh is keen to deepen educational cooperation with China. "We want to further strengthen the bridge of Bangladesh-China relations, and education will be the main pillar of that bridge," he said.
The forum also saw the signing of multiple memorandums of understanding between Bangladeshi and Chinese institutions to expand cooperation in education. Later, guests inaugurated an education and technology exhibition and visited various stalls.
Presided over by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, the event was also attended by Education Adviser to the Prime Minister Mahdi Amin, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khalek, University Grants Commission Chairman Mamun Ahmed, BUET Vice-Chancellor ABM Badaruzzaman, and Secondary and Higher Education Directorate Director General Professor Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel.
