Edu minister urges teachers to uphold ethics braving challenges
Referring to the education sector as a place of “worship”, he said positive outcomes achieved through teaching contribute to ongoing good deeds (Sadaqah Jariyah), encouraging teachers to perform their duties with dedication and sincerity.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has urged teachers of newly nationalised colleges to carry out their professional and ethical responsibilities, braving various challenges and limitations.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the "Induction Training for Non-Cadre Teachers of Newly Nationalised Government Colleges" at the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) in Dhaka today (29 March).
Describing teachers as the "practical doctors" of the nation, the minister said they play a vital role in shaping future generations.
"If education is the backbone of a nation, then teachers are responsible for keeping that backbone strong," he said.
"There should be no compromise in duty even in difficult circumstances," he further added.
He noted that building a developed Bangladesh is not the responsibility of any single individual or government, but a collective national commitment in which teachers play the most crucial role.
He also called on educators to treat students as their own children.
Highlighting structural issues in the education system, the minister pointed out delays in public examinations such as SSC and HSC, which he said waste valuable time. Although academic activities often end by 31 December, public exams are held as late as April and June of the following year, leading to inefficiencies. He stressed the need for effective reforms to address the issue.
He also instructed participating teachers to submit written recommendations after the training, saying their experiences and suggestions could help build a more effective and time-sensitive education system.
Referring to the education sector as a place of "worship", he said positive outcomes achieved through teaching contribute to ongoing good deeds (Sadaqah Jariyah), encouraging teachers to perform their duties with dedication and sincerity.
The event was attended by senior ministry officials, including Director (Secondary) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, NAEM Director General Wasim Md Mezbahul Haque, and teachers from across the country.
