Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice-President and International Affairs Secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir, Shadik Kayem, has announced his resignation from the organisation.
In a post on his verified Facebook account today (13 July), Shadik said his departure was part of the organisation's regular process.
"With this, a long and golden chapter has come to an end. As part of the organisation's normal process, my formal leave from Islami Chhatra Shibir became effective today," he wrote.
However, he did not disclose the reason behind his decision to leave the organisation.
Attempts to contact Shadik via WhatsApp for comment were unsuccessful.
Earlier, on 1 May, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami announced Shadik Kayem as its prospective mayoral candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation.
At the time, Chhatra Shibir said its office-bearers are not allowed to contest elections on behalf of any political party while holding positions within the student organisation.
