Driver arrested after ‘driving off’ with employer's car over unpaid overtime
The caller also said the driver was not answering phone calls and sought assistance in recovering the vehicle.
A car was recovered and its driver arrested today (27 July) after he allegedly drove away with the vehicle over a dispute involving unpaid overtime wages.
The driver, identified as Md Jalil Mridha, 59, was arrested on suspicion of stealing the vehicle.
According to a press release issued by the National Emergency Service, the car owner called the emergency hotline 999 this morning, reporting that his driver had taken the vehicle from the Notun Bazar area under Bhatara Police Station without informing anyone.
The caller also said the driver was not answering phone calls and sought assistance in recovering the vehicle.
After receiving the call, officials immediately alerted the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Control Room.
Later, Traffic Sergeant Toufiq Elahi Sujon intercepted the vehicle, bearing registration number Dhaka Metro-Ga-22-8878, in front of Shamim Dental on Nazimuddin Road at Chankharpul under Bangshal Police Station.
Police subsequently took custody of the vehicle and handed it back to its owner. The accused has been taken to Bangshal Police Station for legal proceedings, added the press release.
