Section 144 imposed in B'Baria over 2 BNP counter programmes
Kasba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Samiul Islam said Section 144 had been imposed to avoid any untoward incidents arising from the rival programmes.
The Kasba upazila administration today (18 June) imposed Section 144 as two factions of BNP announced counter programmes at the same location and time.
According to an order issued by the upazila administration, Section 144 will remain in force from 2pm to 12am today in Kuti South Bazar and the surrounding areas of Kuti union in the upazila.
Kasba Police Station Officer-in-Charge Naznin Sultana said additional police personnel had been deployed in the area covered by the restrictions.
"Legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to create disorder," she said.

He added that all meetings, rallies and public gatherings in the designated area would remain prohibited until midnight.
According to police and local sources, supporters of Brahmanbaria-4 (Kasba-Akhaura) MP Mushfiqur Rahman announced a celebratory rally and gathering at Kuti South Bazar at 4pm.
The event, organised under the banner of Kuti Union BNP led by Union Parishad's Acting Chairman Uzzal Mia, was held to celebrate his recent appointment as chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Finance.
Meanwhile, another faction of Kuti Union BNP announced a reception and discussion meeting at the same venue and time to honour newly elected Kuti Union BNP President Mahbubul Islam Shaheen.
The competing programmes heightened tensions in the area, prompting the administration to impose Section 144 to prevent any potential conflict.
